Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 17

By T.P. Creech (aka "hubby") Between pregnancy and the newborn days, the blog has been neglected for some time. However, getting back into the swing of things, it is finally back to DMB Thursdays!  Which means it's time for another Live Trax review! This one's a prime number too.  (Don't ask, I'm weird.)

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 16

T.P. Creech (aka "hubby") I'm back again with another Live Trax review.  This one is a favorite of mine. DMB Live Trax Volume 16 06.26.2000

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 15

DMB Live Trax Volume 15 08.09.2008

Dave Matthews - Live Trax Volume 14

By TC DMB Live Trax Volume 14 06.28.2008 1) Don't Drink The Water 2) Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back) 3) So Damn Lucky » 4) The Dreaming Tree 5) The Idea of You 6) Corn Bread 7) You Might Die Trying 8) The Space Between 9) Sledgehammer 10) Eh Hee 11) Louisiana Bayou 12) Out of My Hands » 13) Everyday » 14) Ants Marching 15) So Much to Say » Anyone Seen The Bridge? » 16) Too Much 17) Sister 18) Pantala Naga Pampa » Rapunzel 19) Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) This Live Trax is a somber one.  One look at the album cover and you see Leroi Moore, founding saxophone player of the band who passed a couple of months after this show took place.  The band dedicated this release to him. Obviously, any fan of the band wants to purchase this.  It's historic.  But I'm going to do my best to treat it as "just another show" for this review.  It's June 2008, which means there's a freshness here that was absent over the previous few y...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 13

My review of all of the DMB Live Trax series continues with what was, at least at the time, another recent release - this one coming out four months after the show had taken place. DMB Live Trax Volume 13 06.07.2008 1) Two Step 2) Rhyme & Reason 3) Corn Bread 4) Crash into Me » 5) One Sweet World 6) #27 7) So Damn Lucky 8) Crush 9) Don't Drink The Water 10) Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black) 11) Pay For What You Get 12) Recently » 13) Water Into Wine » 14) Tripping Billies 15) Grey Street 16) You Might Die Trying 17) Ants Marching 18) Everyday 19) Louisiana Bayou 20) Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) A lot happened to DMB during 2008.  First, a little history. Stand Up, the band's polarizing (that's the kindest way I can put it - read: disliked by almost everyone) album comes out in 2005.  The following year's summer tour is very heavy on those songs and is considered one of the weakest tours.  In 2006, the band starts strong in the first month of the tou...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 12

By TC Today I'm talking Live Trax Volume 12. DMB Live Trax Volume 12 05.05.1995 1) Warehouse 2) Recently 3) Dancing Nancies 4) The Song That Jane Likes 5) Proudest Monkey » 6) Satellite 7) What Would You Say 8) Tripping Billies 9) Drive In Drive Out 10) Typical Situation » 11) #36 » 12) Ants Marching 13) #40 14) All Along The Watchtower I tend to float around when I pick my favorite era of the band.  Sometimes I really connect with the 2008-2011 era.  When Tim came back full time, I felt the band really picked up the energy and brought new life to a lot of old songs.  Sometimes I fall back to the 2000-2003 era, what I consider the height of their popularity and influence (if they had any at all), and that's when I first saw them too (in 2003).  And I tend to fall back into this period - the winter and spring of 1995. I'm not sure what it is about this particular era that is so fantastic to me.  The songs sound really tight.  The setl...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 11

It's husband again.  It's hard to believe I've reviewed 10 of these already.  No time like the present to write about number 11. DMB Live Trax Volume 11 08.29.2000 1) The Stone 2) Rhyme & Reason 3) Don't Drink The Water 4) #41 » 5) Grace Is Gone 6) JTR 7) What Would You Say 8) The Maker » 9) All Along The Watchtower 10) Crash Into Me 11) Minarets 12) Lie In Our Graves 13) Bartender 14) So Much to Say » Anyone Seen the Bridge » Too Much [fake]  » 15) Ants Marching 16) Digging a Ditch 17) Pantala Naga Pampa » Rapunzel The series takes a hiatus from "current" shows (at the time) and swings back to a favorite time period for most fans, summer 2000.  This particular show is the show immediately after Live Trax Volume 3 (two nights earlier).  At first glance, the set is fairly similar.  However, there were a few surprises thrown in this show to make it special in its own right.  Butch Taylor also guests on this show as he did thro...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 10

By TC DMB Live Trax Volume 10 05.25.2007 1) Everyday 2) Dreamgirl 3) Crash into Me 4) Hunger for the Great Light 5) Louisiana Bayou 6) When the World Ends 7) Grey Street 8) The Idea of You 9) So Much to Say » Anyone Seen the Bridge » 10) Too Much 11) Sister 12) Lie in Our Graves 13) #41 » 14) American Baby Intro 15) Two Step » 16) Ants Marching 17) Gravedigger 18) Jimi Thing 19) Stay (Wasting Time) 20) Don't Drink the Water 21) Pantala Naga Pampa » Rapunzel Volume 10 of the Live Trax series takes us to a concert which took place a mere two months after Volume 9.  This show, part of the 2007 Europe tour, was noted for the crowd.  The audience in Portugal was absolutely insane and the recording captures it. This album, thankfully, is better than Volume 9.  Once again though, I'd put this one in the "historically significant" category rather than the "great" category.  It's not badly performed by any means (my favorite 2007 rele...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 9

By TC There aren't many multiple night sets in the Live Trax series.  Volume 6, Fenway, is one of them.  Volume 9, MGM Grand in Las Vegas is the other.  That's the one I'm discussing today. DMB Live Trax Volume 9 03.23.2007 & 03.24.2007 Night 1 1) Pantala Naga Pampa » Rapunzel 2) Satellite 3) When the World Ends 4) Time of the Season 5) Hunger for the Great Light 6) Dreamgirl 7) Say Goodbye 8) The Idea of You 9) Louisiana Bayou 10) I'll Back You Up 11) Down by the River 12) Crush 13) The Maker 14) Jimi Thing 15) Stay (Wasting Time) 16) Sister 17) Everyday 18) What You Are Night 2 1) Crash into Me 2) You Might Die Trying 3) Grey Street 4) Sweet Caroline » 5) What Would You Say 6) The Idea of You 7) Seek Up 8) Still Water » 9) Don't Drink the Water 10 Dancing Nancies 11) Where Are You Going 12) The Maker 13) Louisiana Bayou 14) Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd 15) Down by the River 16) Too Much 17) Tripping Billies 18) Gra...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 8

By TC Another day, another Live Trax review.  Let's talk about Volume 8. DMB Live Trax Volume 8 08.07.2004 1) Hello Again 2) Granny 3) #41 » 4) The Stone 5) Crazy Easy 6) So Much to Say » 7) Super Freak [partial]  » 8) Too Much 9) Bartender 10) When the World Ends 11) Help Myself 12) I'll Back You Up 13) Joyride 14) Grey Street 15) Sugar Will 16) Ants Marching » 17) Everyday 18) Typical Situation 19) Warehouse The series returns to summer 2004 for this entry.  The pick this time around is one of the most highly regarded shows of that tour.  The show has its high and low points, but on balance, this is a much better selection for 2004 than Live Trax 2. Hello Again, one of the new summer 2004 songs, opens the show.  I'm not a huge fan of this song, but it works as an opener here.  Granny is fantastic, and a great one-two punch of #41 and The Stone follows.  So far, so good.  Crazy Easy, another of the new summer 2004 son...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax 7

Guest post by TC DMB Live Trax Volume 7 12.31.1996 1) Seek Up 2) Dancing Nancies » 3) Warehouse 4) Say Goodbye 5) Satellite 6) Rhyme & Reason 7) Two Step 8) Crash into Me 9) So Much to Say » 10) Anyone Seen the Bridge » 11) Too Much Set Break 12) Tripping Billies 13) Lie in Our Graves 14) #41 » 15) Minarets 16) Typical Situation 17) Ants Marching 18) All Along the Watchtower I saw a message board post from a guy who is involved with the DMBAlmanac.com site, archiving and cataloging information about the live performances of DMB.  He said, essentially, that when the Live Trax series was announced back in 2004 there were three shows which came to mind that should be released: 12.8.1998 (Live Trax 1), 12.31.1996 (this show), and 2.19.1996 (Live Trax 23 - I'll get there). When the series was announced, this show was one of the ones fans mentioned constantly as wanting to have it relased.  It is considered as one of the top 5 concerts from this band, ...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax 6

By TC Up next in the Live Trax Series is Volume 6 which captures both nights of the 2006 run at Fenway Park in Boston.  For those of you who still buy CDs, this is a 4-disc set. DMB Live Trax Volume 6 07.07.2006 & 07.08.2006 Night 1 1) Everyday 2) Pig 3) Proudest Monkey » 4) Satellite 5) The Idea of You 6) Grey Street 7) Bartender 8) Crash Into Me 9) Jimi Thing 10) The Last Stop 11) Digging a Ditch 12) Tripping Billies 13) Can't Stop 14) Hunger for the Great Light 15) Louisiana Bayou 16) Ants Marching 17) Smooth Rider 18) Stay (Wasting Time) Night 2 1) One Sweet World 2) What Would You Say 3) Don't Drink the Water 4) Say Goodbye 5) Grace Is Gone 6) American Baby 7) Break Free 8) Sweet Caroline » 9) So Much to Say » Anyone Seen the Bridge » 10) Too Much 11) Can't Stop 12) Crush 13) What You Are 14) Dancing Nancies » 15) Warehouse 16) Pantala Naga Pampa » Rapunzel 17) American Baby Intro » 18) Two Step These two shows were r...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 5

by TC Hello Interworld.  It's husband again.  (Tired of me yet!?). Sometimes in life, you just have to be honest with yourself and admit your mistakes.  In this blog post, I publicly admit to a mistake I made for a few years with regards to this album, Live Trax Volume 5. DMB Live Trax Volume 5 08.23.1995 1) Proudest Monkey » 2) Satellite 3) One Sweet World 4) Drive In Drive Out 5) Dancing Nancies » 6) Warehouse 7) Tripping Billies 8) Lover Lay Down 9) Rhyme & Reason 10) Exodus 11) Jimi Thing 12) Pay for What You Get 13) Two Step » 14) Ants Marching 15) Typical Situation 16) All Along The Watchtower This particular album was released in May, 2006.  When it was first announced, fans immediately asked the question - "This is only 8 days after Red Rocks.  Why is this a Live Trax?  What a waste." I made this same mistake. At first glance, this show does look remarkably like the famous Live At Red Rocks 08.15.1995 album that all...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax 4

by TC In early September, 2005, five months since Volume 3, Live Trax Volume 4 was released.  (And, in case you couldn't tell, this is husband checking in on the blog for today.  Hello Inter-world.) DMB Live Trax Volume 4 04.30.1996 1) Two Step » 2) Say Goodbye » 3) Richmond Jam 4) Too Much 5) So Much to Say 6) Crash Into Me 7) #41 8) Lie in Our Graves 9) Jimi Thing 10) Ants Marching 11) Proudest Monkey » 12) Satellite 13) Cry Freedom 14) Drive In Drive Out 15) Typical Situation 16) Little Thing 17) All Along The Watchtower 18) Tripping Billies This show is definitely in the "historically significant" category.  It's the Crash album release party show.  It also marks the beginning of multi-track recording for every show of the band.  Up to this point, only certain shows had been multi-tracked.  From here on out, unless there was an error in the recording (which does happen from time to time), there are multi-tracks of every show. ...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 3

On March 17, 2005, Live Trax Volume 3 was released.  If you aren't familiar with downloading shows or tape trading for Dave Matthews Band, this show may not have been on your radar until that day.  Afterwards though, at least for the vast majority of fans, it's a show that hasn't left the rotation since. DMB Live Trax Volume 3 08.27.2000 1) Dancing Nancies 2) Seek Up 3) Linus and Lucy 4) Pantala Naga Pampa » Rapunzel 5) I'll Back You Up 6) Busted Stuff 7) Recently 8) Raven 9) The Maker 10) Grey Street 11) Grace Is Gone 12) Say Goodbye 13) Bartender 14) JTR 15) Ants Marching 16) The Stone 17) Drive In Drive Out This is widely regarded as the best of the Live Trax series.  We're 36 shows in and it still seems there is a general consensus that it doesn't get any better than this particular album.  The 2000 Summer Tour is in the running for the best ever (at least among fans).  The band was in the height of their popularity in the eyes of the ...

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax Volume 2

Back by popular demand (and because she asked me to keep writing), it's husband's blog post.  Next up in the series of Live Trax album reviews, Live Trax Volume 2. DMB Live Trax Volume 2 09.12.2004 1) One Sweet World 2) What Would You Say 3) So Much to Say » Anyone Seen the Bridge » 4) Pantala Naga Pampa »  Rapunzel 5) Joyride 6) #41 7) The Best of What's Around 8) Lie in Our Graves 9) The Stone 10) Drive In Drive Out 11) Loving Wings » 12) Where Are You Going 13) Hello Again 14) Jimi Thing 15) Warehouse » 16) Sugar Will 17) All Along the Watchtower 18) Stay (Wasting Time) 19) Everyday 20) Too Much After the initial release in this series, LT1, fans immediately began asking (with renewed intensity) for their favorite shows to be released.  12.31.1996, 7.10.2004, 12.3.1998, 2.19.1996, etc, etc.  This pick for the second show, which was performed some three months before, was confusing to fans. Nick-named "Central Park West" as an homage ...

Live Trax Volume 1 Review

**This is a guest post by my husband. He is going to review Dave Matthews Band Live Trax. There are 36 posts so far, and I will be publishing them on Thursdays, for those who are interested in Dave Matthews Band. His great love for the Dave Matthews Band is to be shared with all.** This post is unlike anything you've ever read on this blog.  That's because for the first time in the history of the Internet on this blog, my wife is not writing a blog post.  The text you're reading was written by her husband. I'm not sure why my wife has asked me to write a guest blog post, nor am I sure why she wanted me to write on any topic I choose, but being the good husband I am I'm taking her up on the challenge. I thought I'd take my blog post (likely, eventually, posts) to avoid anything controversial.  Instead, I'll do a series of reviews on the Live Trax series of albums from Dave Matthews Band.  Why, you say?  I say why not. DMB Live Trax Volume 1 12.08.19...
